Update: Whitaker's sass continued after Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee suggested he was stalling for time to avoid answering a question.  After Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) requested to have her five minutes of allotted time reset, Whitaker paused before answering her question - stating "I don't know if your time's been restored or not."  "Mr. attorney general, we are not joking here," said Jackson Lee. "And your humor is not acceptable."  Whitaker tries to run out the clock instead of answering @JacksonLeeTX18's extremely straightforward question about if he's testified during an oversight hearing before. "Mr attorney general, we are not joking here and your humor is not acceptable," she admonishes him. — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) February 8, 2019 *** Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker shocked the room during a contentious exchange with House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), when he reminded Nadler that his time had run out for questioning.  "Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up," said Whitaker - resulting in audible gasps throughout the packed committee hearing.  "I am here voluntarily. We have agreed to five minute rounds," he added.  "In your capacity as Acting Attorney General, have you ever been asked to approve any request or action to be taken by the special counsel?" House Judiciary Chair Nadler asks. "Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up," Acting AG Whitaker answers. — ABC News (@ABC) February 8, 2019 Nadler began laughing, and pointed out that they did not enforce the 5-minute rule on Whitaker.  Whitaker's comment came after Nadler asked whether the acting AG has had any role in approving any "request or action to be taken by the special counsel."
