Amazon Reconsidering NY Headquarters Site "Following A Wave Of Opposition"
All of those real estate speculators who snatched up Queens real estate late last year are about to be very unhappy. According to a report in the Washington Post, Amazon is reconsidering its plans to open a sprawling new corporate headquarters in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens after New York State lawmakers who are opposed to the lucrative package of "performance based incentives" threatened to sabotage the deal. The report adds to the pressure on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to put a stop to a lawmakers' nomination to a state board that could give him authority to unilaterally kill the incentives package. An Amazon spokeswoman said the company is working on "engaging with our new neighbors...and community leaders." “We’re focused on engaging with our new neighbors - small business owners, educators, and community leaders. Whether it’s building a pipeline of local jobs through workforce training or funding computer science classes for thousands of New York City students, we are working hard to demonstrate what kind of neighbor we will be,” Amazon spokeswoman Jodi Seth said The news added to the woes for Amazon shares, which touched their lows of the day on the headline.
