Twelve House Republicans vote for bill reopening Transportation, Housing departments
Twelve House Republicans joined Democrats in a vote Thursday to reopen the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development departments. It was a slight increase from a vote Wednesday, when eight Republicans voted for a bill to open the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service. The White House has threatened a presidential veto over the bills saying they aren't a substitute for a deal on border security. Earlier Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked an attempt by Democrats to force a vote on legislation to reopen the government. The shutdown is on its 20th day.
