More than 12,000 people have served in Congress, most of them leaving not much of a mark. These 10 former lawmakers, on the other hand, all served on Capitol Hill for 48 years or more, led by former Michigan Rep. John Dingell, who died Feb. 7, 2019 at the age of 92. Of the 10, seven served exclusively in the House and three others served both in the House and Senate. (As of February 2019, the longest-serving active member of Congress was Alaska Rep. Don Young, whose service dated to 1973.)
